Two ways to run InstaOutreach, on the same plan. The Chrome extension works in the Chrome you already use, on your own connection. The Mac app runs several accounts in the background, each in its own window. Pick one; you can switch any time.

## Which one to pick

### Chrome extension, best for

- 1 or 2 accounts
- Windows or Linux
- Zero setup

### Mac app, best for

- Many accounts on one Mac
- Runs all day in the background
- A proxy per account

## Chrome extension compared with the Mac app

| Topic | Chrome extension | Mac app |
|---|---|---|
| Runs on | Chrome 114+ on a computer | macOS 13+, Apple silicon or Intel |
| Accounts | 1 per Chrome profile | Many, each in its own window |
| Connection | Your own. No proxy | A proxy per account, or the Mac's own |
| Instagram login | Your open session. No password | Log in once per window |
| Runs | While Chrome is open | In the background, from the menu bar |
| Using Instagram yourself | Pauses while you use the tab | Your Chrome stays free |
| Install | Chrome Web Store, 1 click | Terminal command or .zip |
| Updates | Automatic | Automatic |
| Extras | Side panel next to Instagram | Menu bar icon, desktop widget |
| Price | Same plan | Same plan |

More detail:

- Accounts: The Mac app fits about 25 accounts on 16 GB of memory.
- Instagram login: The Mac app logs back in by itself if the password is saved in InstaOutreach.
- Runs: The Mac app starts when you log in to your Mac. Closing the lid pauses it.
- Using Instagram yourself: In the Mac app, Take over pauses one account.
- Extras: The desktop widget needs macOS 14 or newer.

## Install from the terminal or an AI agent

### Mac app, one command

```sh
curl -fsSL https://instaoutreach.com/desktop/install.sh | sh
```

Downloads the build for your chip, checks its SHA-256 and opens the app. Read the script: https://instaoutreach.com/desktop/install.sh

### Connect Claude Code or any MCP agent

```sh
claude mcp add --transport http instaoutreach https://instaoutreach.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN"
```

Create the token in Settings, MCP access. Cursor and Claude Desktop: config in the docs, https://instaoutreach.com/docs#connect

### Prompt for your AI agent

```text
Set up InstaOutreach (https://instaoutreach.com) for me. 1) On this Mac, install the app: curl -fsSL https://instaoutreach.com/desktop/install.sh | sh 2) Connect InstaOutreach to this agent over MCP: claude mcp add --transport http instaoutreach https://instaoutreach.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" (I create the token in InstaOutreach under Settings, MCP access). 3) Read https://instaoutreach.com/llms.txt for what the tools do.
```

Paste it into Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. The Chrome extension installs only from the Chrome Web Store, so it has no terminal command.

## Questions people ask

### Can I switch between the extension and the Mac app later?

Yes. Campaigns, leads and the inbox live in your InstaOutreach dashboard, not in the app. Install the other one and sign in with the same account.

### Do I pay more for the Mac app?

No. Both are on the same plan: $29 a month for the first Instagram account and $14.50 for each extra, after a 14-day free trial.

### Is there a Windows app?

No. On Windows or Linux, use the Chrome extension.

### Does either one keep running when my computer is off?

No. Both run on your own computer. The extension pauses when Chrome closes; the Mac app pauses when the Mac sleeps.
